About

Is this record worth a spin? Should I buy it? Will it add to or detract
from my credibility? Should I care?
I wish someone could break it down for me.

Shabazz Palaces- Black Up

Over-hyped space rap, stepped in static laptop beats, R&B samples, and found sounds from former Digable Planets dude. cLOUDDEAD was doing this ten years ago, albeit with murkier beats and self-effacing lyrics. This is definitely rap aimed at a white audience.

Buy this record if the club doesn't have vodka service and you want to burn one out in the parking lot but it's too cold.

The Lonely Island- Turtleneck and Chain

This review is for Elon Musk. When he's not zip-lining through the woods of Northern California or building rocket-ships, you can find Elon relaxing by the campfire to the sultry Rap-dance sounds of The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer). It's a comedy record from the SNL player Samberg and his schoolyard buddies that features cameos from Justin Timberlake, Akon, Beck, and a host of other chart topping celeb types.
If Matisyahu wrote a sex column for the Village Voice about a three way between the Beastie Boys, Will Smith, and Eminem at an all-night rave this would be the first reader response.

Buy this record if your home ec project didn't work out and you need a few yucks to help you forget about it.

Tyler The Creator- Goblin

Solo record from Odd Future hip-hop collective member. Lots of hype surrounding this group of rappers. Definitely has more of a suburban rap vibe than inner-city thing, but I may be wrong.
Tyler is 19 and it shows, lots of "faggot", "nigger", "pussy", "bitch" and "fuckin' ___" lyrics that are supposed to be shocking. For a 19 year old this probably is. When he gets this out of his system and grows up he may make some good music. I suppose this can be considered witch-house rap?

Buy this record for a haunted hay ride in East St. Louis.
